I found a smiliar problem in bug #16833, and tried the provided configure script, with no luck.

Using automake 2.53.

schizo [38]# make
Making all in Zend
/bin/sh ../libtool --silent --mode=compile gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../main    -D_POSIX_PTHREAD_SEMANTICS -DEAPI -DMOD_PERL -DUSE_EXPAT -I../TSRM  -g -O2 -prefer-pic -c -o zend_language_parser.lo `test -f zend_language_parser.c || echo './'`zend_language_parser.c

Configure with CC=GCC. And search the bugdb, there are tons of reports about this bug.

Erm, that should be
CC=gcc

There are also many reports that CC=gcc doesn't help. It
doesn't solve the issue for me.

I tried that as well, no luck. the configure script is telling me it's finding it, but unix.h doesn't exist anywhere in the system. Flushing the config cache and rerunning seems to fix.

This bug has been fixed in CVS. You can grab a snapshot of the
CVS version at http://snaps.php.net/. In case this was a documentation
problem, the fix will show up soon at http://www.php.net/manual/.
In case this was a PHP.net website problem, the change will show
up on the PHP.net site and on the mirror sites.
Thank you for the report, and for helping us make PHP better.
