PHP reports "Warning: Wrong parameter count for msql_connect()"

Manual says "int msql_connect(string hostname, string username, string password);"

My script looks something like:

  $host = "gimp.team17.com";
  $user = "user";
  $passwd = "passwd";
  $connect_status = msql_connect($host,$user,$passwd);
  echo "mSQL connect status: $connect_status\n";
?>

Compiled modules are mSQL2.0.3 and gd1.2

Is the above not the correct syntax?
