./configure --with-xml --with-dom=/usr/local/lib

checking whether to enable the bundled dbase library... no
checking for DOM support... yes
checking for DOM in default path... not found
configure: error: Please reinstall the libxml >= 2.2.7 distribution

pkg_info -a | grep libxml:

libxml2-2.2.11

pkg_info -L libxml2-2.2.11:

/usr/local/lib/libxml2.a
/usr/local/lib/libxml2.so
/usr/local/lib/libxml2.so.5

Fixed in CVS. Thank you for noticing this! 

(libxml.a|so is in some systems named as libxml2.a|so)
