The manual mentions the --disable-path-info-check correctly:
http://php.net/manual/en/configure.about.php

except that this configuration option has been removed in PHP 5.3 and later versions (PHP >= 5.3).

It should also say:
Now it is enabled by default, but can be disabled with ini directive "cgi.fix_pathinfo=0"

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
