Description:
------------
Hello!

The xattr extension is currently Linux-only (or at least glibc-only), but i don't think it would be complicated at all to fix that limitation. I have a proof-of-concept fork with Darwin compatibility here:

https://github.com/okdana/pecl-xattr/compare/compat/darwin

Everything seems to work (except xattr_supported(); need to revisit that), and as you can see it was pretty simple, so i was even going to move on to adding *BSD compatibility — but i wanted to check to see if this sort of change would be welcome.

Would you accept a patch/PR that adds compatibility with Darwin and/or BSD?

If so:

1. Do you have any comments on the direction i'm taking? I'm not much of a C programmer, so i'm not sure what the best practices are. Should i create a separate file for compatibility stuff maybe?

2. What are the guide-lines for contributing to the project? Do i just submit patches through here?

Thanks!

Is this even still an isue with any of the actively supported PHP
versions[1] and latest xattr (1.4.0).
