http://php.net/manual/en/language.oop5.basic.php says: 
"The pseudo-variable $this is available when a method is called from within an object context. $this is a reference to the calling object (usually the object to which the method belongs, but possibly another object, if the method is called statically from the context of a secondary object)."
Immediately after that, a test script ("Example 2") is given with expected output.

In php 7 the value of this is set to null when calling statically from a secondary object (see http://php.net/manual/en/migration70.incompatible.php, section "Calls from incompatible context removed"), this documentation is now outdated.In fact, if I run the script "Example 2" I do not get the results expected in the documentation.
