Description:
------------

From manual page: http://www.php.net/function.hash
---
Warum kann im deutschen Text nicht "Prüfsumme" statt "Hash" stehen ? Das Wort "Hash" hat etliche Bedeutungen, z.B. auch das Doppelkreuz, und es ist hier für ein deutsches Handbuch recht irreführend !

A translation of "hash" into German would be rather useful because the different meanings of hash are not commonly known in German. In case the meaning "checksum" is meant it should be replaced by "Prüfsumme" otherwise by "Doppelkreuz" with "hash" in brackets behind or vice versa...

While hash() can be used to calculate checksums (e.g. by using
"crc32" as $algo), it also can be used to calculate cryptographic
hash values. Therefore changing the translation to "Prüfsumme"
would be incorrect. I believe the correct translation would be
"Streuwert", but that term might not be as well known in German as
the term "Hash", so sticking with the current translation seems to
be best. Furthermore, we don't translate "string" (in the sense of
"character string") to "Zeichenkette" throughout the docs, and
that also doesn't appear to be an issue.
