the use of 

<%= expression %>

or


<?= expression ?>

doesn't work even when short or asp style tags have been enabled in the .ini file.

Outputs:Parse error: syntax error, unexpected...


Test script:
---------------
<?= echo "tom" ?>

Expected result:
----------------
tom

Actual result:
--------------
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected 'echo' (T_ECHO) in C:\Users\Robert\Documents\web development\xampp\htdocs\xampp\web_development\new_study\one.php on line 1

You can't use echo with short echo tags
