$draw->setFillColor('#ff0000');
$image-> annotateImage($draw, 0,0,'text');

Expected result:
----------------
semitransparent text

Actual result:
--------------
semitransparent box around nontransparent image

This does appear to be a bug. It will probably need reporting upstream at http://sourceforge.net/p/graphicsmagick/bugs/
