Description:
------------
I cannot upgrade my PHP version.
I already had this problem last year, when I tried to upgrade from PHP 5.3.0 to
5.3.5; after a couple of mails, you dismissed me by saying my version wasn't
updated and that I should download the latest version from the Downloads
page...but that was what I had done and it hadn't worked. So, I stuck with version
3.5.0 and waited.
Today, I tried to download latest version 5.3.9, but I got the same error - that
you can see in
http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac242/luciensabre/install_error.png.
What can I do to upgrade my version?

Download the zip instead. Unzip into the install directory to overwrite the existing files. Never used the installer so can't really advise about that, sorry.

I tried downloading the zipped version, to simply overwrite the existing files,
but I didn't understand where to put the files - and I'm a bit afraid of messing
up current installation.

So back up the install folder first then. But I doubt it can be too strangely laid out because I've never had a problem just running copies of PHP arbitrarily from extracted zips.

Once I back up the original files, what do I do? I'm a complete beginner
***moron*** in these cases

It's not moronic to be a beginner, it's moronic to not just try it and learn by experimentation.

So, what do I do?

Try installing as an administrator (right click the installer, run as
administrator) or disable windows UAC

Microsoft Installers don't have the right-click ---> "Run as Administrator"
option, it just says INSTALL.
And I have no idea of what is windows UAC

This is not a support channel. Please use the php-install or the php-windows
mailing list to ask further support.

I'll be sure not to disturb you, pajoye, as you woke up on the wrong side of the
bed.
