Would it be possible to start/run APC with file stat off but allow one to turn it on using the apc.php control panel preparatory to replacing some software modules. One could then exercise the appropriate software features to ensure the replaced modules were run, and appropriately cached, and then turn file stat off again. Thanks for you time.

APC's lookup hash is different for stat and no-stat modes.

for stat=1 it is (device no + inode no)

for stat=0 it is zend_inline_hash(filename)

if you cache using one, you can't find using the other.

Just go ahead and use apc_compile_file() instead of this.
