This bug has been fixed in CVS.

In case this was a documentation problem, the fix will show up at the
end of next Sunday (CET) on pecl.php.net.

In case this was a pecl.php.net website problem, the change will show
up on the website in short time.

Thank you for the report, and for helping us make PECL better.

Which version of the PECL installer are you using? Can you please try this with a more recent version of PHP? (Ideally try it with 5.3.0alpha1, http://downloads.php.net/johannes/.)

Something's wrong with the bug tracker. This bug is certainly not fixed in CVS, so ignore that part of my previous comment ...

The reporter confirmed to me directly that this is not an issue in recent versions of PHP anymore.
