I bought a copy of sybase 11.5.

Something is wrong with either the libs themselves or your ld.
It is most definitely NOT a PHP problem that ld cannot process
your libraries...
Are you 100% sure that the libs in /opt/sybase/lib are for Solaris?
Are you using Solaris on i86 or Sparc?

Have verified with user privately that there is something wrong with
the sybase libs.
