* The PHP version is actually 5.3.3 (Wasn't an option on drop-down)

I have an application that generates a large amount of soap connections to external web services. Any errors that occur are caught and handled. A few months back I upgraded to 5.3.3. Fairly quickly we started to experience a strange error where a SOAP connection would fail and the whole application would bomb out. No error message or anything. The only way we were able to get any data on what was happening was by registering a shutdown function and using error_get_last() which printed...

SoapClient::__doRequest(): connect() failed: Unspecified error

This error only occurred in maybe one in every 1000 soap requests but was detrimental for our application.
We were forced to revert to a 5.2.x version which works fine.

I forgot to mention that one of the main issues with this is that no exception is thrown or any error generated. The script simply dies.
