When PHP is compiled with --enable-sigschild it discards the return value of child sendmail processes it invokes, which makes mail() always return FALSE.

This isn't documented anywhere (apart from various entries in the bug system as people discover this behaviour).

if my memory does not fail,Dmitry told me once that this option is no longer needed at all... if so.. it may be time to remove it right away.
