Bug #40461 Test for #39602 fails bogusly

Description:
------------
I had a number of 'make test' failures from 5.2.1, but the one for bug #39602 concerned me so I checked it out. Running
sapi/cli/php Zend/tests/bug39602.php
prints "ok", which seems to suggest that the test does NOT fail, so why is it being reported as a failure?

I don't know how the test framework works or how to increase the verbosity; if you need any more info just let me know how to get it...
