When workin with freetds 0.5 a 
sybase query("select id from table") fails, it does not return any meaningfull value.

Can you verify these bugs are there using sybase's libs, rather than
Free TDS?

I suspect that this is a FreeTDS problem, 
as this seems an isolated case.
