Submitted: 2004-11-09 00:25 UTC Modified: 2004-11-09 07:02 UTC
From: mfurdyk at takingitglobal dot org Assigned:
Status: Not a bug Package: Mail related
PHP Version: 4.3.9 OS: Redhat 7.3
Private report: No CVE-ID: None
[2004-11-09 00:25 UTC] mfurdyk at takingitglobal dot org
Description:
------------
I have checked to see if this is a problem with qmail, but it is not.

If I send an e-mail, using UTF-8 as encoding for the .php files that does this, with the subject and body being Unicode Russian or Spanish or any type of special characters, the subject always comes through missing characters...

The body, however, is always fine!

Reproduce code:
---------------
mail("$full","Вестник TakingITGlobal 4.11: Предпринимательство","TakingITGlobal 4.11: представляет whatever here","From: test@whatever.com\nContent-Type: text/plain; charset=\"utf-8\"\n");

Expected result:
----------------
Subject retainining all UTF-8 characters.

Actual result:
--------------
Subject:
е ник TakingITGlobal 4.11: едп инима ел во

Sorry, but your problem does not imply a bug in PHP itself. For a
list of more appropriate places to ask for help using PHP, please
visit http://www.php.net/support.php as this bug system is not the
appropriate forum for asking support questions.

Thank you for your interest in PHP.

You need to encode non-ASCII subject lines with base64_encode() or imap_qprint().
