When you do a make install, the script will try to put

LoadModule php4_module        lib/apache/libphp4.so

at the end of the LoadModules directives in httpd.conf. In my case, the last LoadModule was inside a <IfDefine> block, so the LoadModule php4_module line got added into the <IfDefine> block.

eg.

<IfDefine SSL>
LoadModule ssl_module         lib/apache/libssl.so
LoadModule php4_module        lib/apache/libphp4.so
</IfDefine>

when it really should be:

<IfDefine SSL>
LoadModule ssl_module         lib/apache/libssl.so
</IfDefine>
LoadModule php4_module        lib/apache/libphp4.so

Same thing with the AddModule directive.

This is not a PHP bug. The apxs script which is part of the Apache distribution is responsible for doing this, so if you wish to report this as a bug, report it to the Apache team.
