When I compile php with the option apxs2:  ./configure --prefix=/etc/httpd/php --with-apxs2=/etc/httpd/bin/apxs --with-mysql=../mysql
I see the problem follow:
ext/ctype/ctype.lo: file not recognized: File truncated
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: ** [libphp4.la] Erro 1

Are you compiling PHP with ccache ?
If no, try make clean and then make again.
If yes, try without using ccache, it can generate bogus
files sometimes.

This really isn't any PHP bug in ANY case. 
Please don't clutter the bug database with support questions.
