Configure lines looks like the following:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/php4 --with-imap=/root/imap-2001a/ --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-gettext --with-xml --enable-ftp --enable-sockets --with-dom=../libxml2-2.4.23 --with-zlib && make && make install

Tring to compile latest CVS-PHP and libxml 2.4.23 together and towards the end of the compile I come across a whole screen or two worth of information thats looks like this

Thank you for taking the time to report a problem with PHP.
Unfortunately you are not using a current version of PHP -- 
the problem might already be fixed. Please download a new
PHP version from http://www.php.net/downloads.php

If you are able to reproduce the bug with one of the latest
versions of PHP, please change the PHP version on this bug report
to the version you tested and change the status back to "Open".

Hi 

It looks like, php can't link to libxml2. Please check if libxml2 is in your ldconfig-cache (ldconfig -p | grep xml2). If not, adjust /etc/ld.so.conf and add the path, where libxml2.so can be found.

A new snapshot won't help you, since nothing changed in the extension in this area.

Please report back, if it works or not.
