Everytime I have an "Allowed memory size of ... bytes exhausted" error in PHP, my Apache 1.3.24 dies on the next SIGUSR1 (graceful restart) it receives (only the Apache main process dies, without log entry).

Config:
- PHP 4.1.2 to 4.2.1 tested (compiled-in)
- Apache mod_ssl 2.8.8
- ZendOptimizer 1.3.1
- Memory limit set to 8388608

Does this also happen without the Zend Optimizer?

Yes, I've just tried without Optimizer, same result.

I'm fighting with memory exhaused bugs...been getting them all day. Just did a graceful on apache, and whamo! It wasn't so.

The problem remains, with Apache 1.3.26 & PHP 4.2.1 (without mod_ssl and ZendOptimizer).

Also, what script do you use to get these errors?
