I have done a

cvs -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.php.net:/repository co php4
cd php4
mv Zend Zend.old
cvs -d :pserver:cvsread@cvs.php.net:/repository co 
ZendEngine2
mv ZendEngine2 Zend

After succesfull 

./buildconf
./configure

make fails with the current version of ZendEngine2 in the 
sources.
