The simpliest program of identification, the one in the manuel chapter 2, doesn't work
on the FreeBSD machine of my ISP.
The $PHP_AUTH_USER variable never exists, so the authenfication failed again and again.

I can't have access to the php.ini file, but the phpinfo() command shows exactly
the same configuration as mine, which works fine, but I have the version 3.0.7
of php. Another difference is that my ISP uses Apache 1.3.6 whereas I use
the version 1.3.3.

Authentication works fine on FreeBSD. You are doing something silly somewhere and without
more information there is nothing we can do.
