with magic_quotes_sybase enabled, addslashes will replace single quotes with double single quotes and NUL's 
with \NUL's.  stripslashes will change the doubled single quotes back to single quotes, but the 
backslash-escaped NUL's will remain escaped.

I think this is fixed in CVS. If that's not the case, reopen this report.

nope.  code has changed slightly, but logic is still the same.

This bug has been fixed in CVS. You can grab a snapshot of the
CVS version at http://snaps.php.net/. In case this was a documentation 
problem, the fix will show up soon at http://www.php.net/manual/.
In case this was a PHP.net website problem, the change will show
up on the PHP.net site and on the mirror sites.

I'm not convinced that the fix should be on the strip side instead of the add side, but it's a definite goodness to have the functions be inverses of each other.
