Is there anyway to get around MySQL breaking when the server and the client differ by even the most minor revisions...

I need my setup to work with many different remote servers and I have to maintain 5 or so httpd daemons to match each of the servers I must code for.

Can we open this up to review with the MySQL group to resolve?

Also are there problems with using ODBC to connect to MySQL on the UNIX side?  That would eliminate a lot of these problems (probably introduce a bunch of new ones though 8-)  )

Damnit why can't someone come up with a way to put smileys in parenthases correctly.

If the MySQL developers feel that they need to change their client/server protocol, we cannot do anything about it.
