This page lists mysqli_field_count() as an alternative, but the correct alternative is actually mysqli_num_fields(). (The two functions do different things.)

Note that if you search for mysqli_num_fields you won't find it (See Bug #49956).

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
