I have a script that sends large files using:

passthru("cat $filename");

With 4.0.3pl1, if a user aborts the download, the cat process becomes orphaned and cannot be killed.  I just recently upgraded from 4.0RC1 and did not experience this problem until after I upgraded.

Checked with 4.0.4pl1 -- still buggy.

it's already fixed in cvs. 

you should be able to replace ext/stadard/exec with the CVS version from
