I am using the cgi version of php with apache 1.2.5.
If I set an alias in the srm.conf file of apache, I can't
execute php scripts in these aliased directories.

It seems that the path to the script is not correctly passed
to the php.cgi bin. In the source, php constructes the path
to the sript by concatenating document_root and path_info.

I think the correct way would be to concatenate document_root
and path_translated ?
