These pages state "This function has been DEPRECATED as of PHP 7.4.0".

However they give no indication of what should done instead.
They should provide a reference to what is current best practice.
If there is not such page, then it should be written.

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
