Description:

It would be nice if a progressbar could be shown when reading large XML files.

For this I need the read progress in bytes. That way I can calculate the progress using filesize like this: $progress / $filesize

It seems to me there is a technical problem: while libxml2's
xmlreader module has functions to get the the current line[1] and
column number[2], it doesn't look like it can report the current
position in bytes or code points.

Would that information be sufficient for your purposes?
