$query->setQuery($query);

Yes, that's obviously wrong. Can this line simply be removed?

From what I've just testes it's needed to return anything. It would be best to change it to:

$query->setQuery('*:*');

This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
