"driver initialization failed" warning happened
when i tried to do 
smth like this
dba_open("./anybase.dbm", "c", "gdbm");
i compiled PHP with dba_support
and with --with-GDBM key...

Please try latest snapshot from http://snaps.php.net/
and report back whether this works with it or not.

And add the WHOLE configure line you have used to this bug 
report.

The user with which you run Apache  (?) with doesn't have write
access to the current directory. You can check this by changing
the path to /tmp/ e.g.  dba_open("/tmp/anybase.dbm", "c", "gdbm");
or making the current directory writeable for all (chmod a+w)
