On FreeBSD, the configure script fails at the step where it's looking for -lgpgme, but it's not that library which is the problem, but -ldl which is not required on FreeBSD.

I suggest you fix this doing something like this:

Expected result:
The extension should be compiled

Actual result:
The configure step fails
