My PHP version is actually 5.5.9-1ubuntu4.5 (- and that's not one of the options above; and it forces me to select something... so I selected the closest earlier version listed)

The extension (version 1.0.1) seems to build and install fine, locally, but then doesn't load, Apache error.log says:

PHP Warning:  PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-zts-20060613/perl.so' - /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-zts-20060613/perl.so: undefined symbol: executor_globals_id in Unknown on line 0


Test script:
---------------
Any implementation of "$perl=new Perl;" triggers a "PHP Fatal error:  Class 'Perl' not found" error, since the extension doesn't load in the first place, when I restart Apache.

It seems your PHP version is built without thread-safety (check
PHP info). You have compiled the perl extension with thread-safety
(ZTS). Obviously, that doesn't play together.
