The mail and ereg errata pages are positively swamped with all sorts of different user created coding variants on one thing:
a simple, email address validation function. (xxxx.xxxx.xxxx@xxxx.xxxxxxx.xxxxx.xxxxx.xxx)

A convenience function which handled this task would go a long way to cleaning up the documentation, and be a quite frequently used function.
