should do something to prevent similar problems in the future.

I think it might be best to ban url posting on the comments. 
(except for http://*.php.net/ addresses..)

If people really need to post urls, then they can either be 
logged in?, the original poster, or do something like

goto xxx.com /abc.html

not great, but otherwise we get into 'approving' 
people/comments etc... which i'm not sure there are the 
resources for...

The other idea I had for this was 
a) to do the link rendering in javascript, rather than php. 
b) have a button for developers, that flags comment as spam.

However that does not really reduce the spam, just reduces 
the value for the spammer.

removed the spam again(what you reported, and much more), 
added ip logging and added the most active spammer to the 
blacklist, will add the others if necessary.
