This extension does not work with :

suhosin + php 5.2.4

It does work fine if suhosin is disabled.

Does this indicate this extension is not safe / does something potentially insecure?

I can confirm that this is broken w/ suhosin on 5.2.4.

I recently tried the new 2008-07-08 - 0.9.0 release, and can confirm the bug(?) still exists with both Ubuntu 8.04 and OpenSUSE 11.0.

Apache, PHP5 and Suhosin installed from distribution package sources (apt, yast) in default configuration.

Ubuntu 8.04 (x86_64): 
- Apache 2.2.8-1ubuntu0.3
- PHP5 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.2
- Suhosin 0.9.22-1

OpenSUSE 10.3 (x86_64)
- Apache 2.2.4-70.4
- PHP5 5.2.5-8.1
- Suhosin 5.2.5-8.1

It's actually an oversight in suhosin. Nothing I can do right now, it's reported.

It's fixed sind quite some time in the Suhosin extension
