*** Warning: Linking the shared library libphp5.la against the
*** static library /usr/local/perl/perl-5.8.7/lib/5.8.7/sun4-solaris/auto/DynaLoader/DynaLoader.a is not portable!

Whether this is the cause for the problem

Concerning pecl perl package (http://pecl.php.net/package/perl), which offers the same functionality, I needed to add "-mimpure-text" flag to CFLAGS on makefile. Otherwise linker complains about unresolved symbols.
Environment: PHP 5.2.4, perl 5.8.0, gcc 3.3.2, SunOS 5.8 sparc.
