I'm trying to make our db abstraction class to work with PDO. The only problem I have found so far, is that getColumnMeta is a little to much for what we need. We try to cast every result obtained from the db as the correspondent php native type (or a custom class, in the case of a datetime). Maybe it could be useful if there was a method that only returns the native type (and avoids all the extra work needed to find everything else).

Thanks in advance.

Drivers can return the type which works for them best (as long as the stringify attribute is not explicitly set), as of PHP 5.3 the MySQL driver will return native types when using native prepared statements.
