The manpage format requires zlib, but we're not informed of this until it's deep 
into the build process. 

It should check the existence of zlib (gzopen()...) instead of erroring out.

This bug has been fixed in SVN.

Snapshots of the sources are packaged every three hours; this change
will be in the next snapshot. You can grab the snapshot at
http://snaps.php.net/.
