Description:
------------
Reports using the bug reporting form at http://bugs.php.net/ result in
broken text due to the interspersion of blank lines. I haven't had the
opportunity to verify this in the source code, but it seems as though
EOL's are being added at the interstitial 'are you sure this bug is
unique?' page, then again when the report is confirmed and submitted.

Reproduce code:
---------------
Add a new, multi-line report using forms at http://bugs.php.net/.

Expected result:
----------------
Normal word-wrapping for large text blocks:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam
nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat
volutpat. Ut wisi enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exerci tation
ullamcorper suscipit lobortis nisl ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.
Duis autem vel eum iriure dolor in hendrerit in.

Actual result:
--------------
Blank lines interfering with normal word-wrapping:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam
nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat
volutpat. Ut wisi enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exerci tation
ullamcorper suscipit lobortis nisl ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.
Duis autem vel eum iriure dolor in hendrerit in.

Status check: I believe Hannes said someone was going to be reworking
the bug system (maybe it was a GSOC idea). Is there an update on that,
is it going nowhere, or am I just remembering incorrectly?

That GSOC project was one of the 2 projects that failed this summer :(

Jani has however been working on "TNBT" and had a demo online somewhere, although I can't find the url atm.

And I don't think its the 'verify' page that adds these extra new lines. Many of your regular comments have these extra newlines.

I however don't see this that often so I usually assume you automatically hit enter when the textarea seems to be filling up :)

Yeah, sure, blame the guy who points it out! ;-P

No, I take full advantage of word-wrapping in this and email alike. I
personally don't like narrow-block paragraphs (such as what Gmail forces
in formatting). If it's something you're really only seeing in my
comments, though, perhaps I should go through the records and see if
that is the case. If so, I wonder if it's more an issue with Google
Chrome than an issue on our side.

I'll check it out this week and see if that's the case.

Good idea, Hannes: we'll check and compare using the browsers now.
(Duh.)

Here's Chrome....

It's an odd occurrence that doesn't effect Lorem Ipsum lines. Maybe
it's a language-biased bug, preferring Latin to English. Well, then....
fine! (This is just a test message.) I'm using filler text to see if
maybe it's something that's causing problems with non-alphanumeric
characters such as parentheses () and links like
http://www.example.com/. It's a shot in the dark, but we'll see.

For the record, this is typed through Chrome.

For the record, this is also typed through Chrome, but this time with an extended textarea. I can see the entire line above on one single, solitary (lonely) line....
that poor, poor text!

For the record, this is typed through Firefox. It does, indeed, appear as though it could be a bug with Chrome's posting of the data from a textarea, because the newlines changed when I expanded the size of the textarea in the form.
 [2009-09-23 20:24 UTC] danbrown@php.net
Okay, that was easy enough. I'll have to zip this over to the folks working on Chrome to see what they say. Doesn't appear to be a problem here after all.
