Hallo,
with ldap_modify(int link_identifier, string dn, array entry); it is possible to delete an required entry!
If the array contains an empty element e.g. $enty["cn"]=""
the "cn" will be deleted even it is required. 
I use OpenLdap 1.2.9 (schemacheck is on);

This is a known OpenLDAP bug, I'm not sure if it's fixed though.
The server is supposed to not let the client do this, so whatever
PHP (or any other client) does, this should not happen.
