Description:
------------
Hi All,

I am trying to use php as CGI on apache 5 web server, but getting the following error when I am trying to login. Please note that this problem is specific to windows2008.When I am running PHP as Apache module on windows2008 I am able to access the database and able to login to my site. I would like to know what exactly issue with PHP running as CGI module on apache (on windows2008)?
Is there any special settings or dlls required on win28k to run PHP as CGI.

Also I note that I am not able to DSN 'SymantecEndpoint' which is system DSN from control panel->Administrative tools -> system DSN.

From error it seems it is not able to instantiate COM object using ADODB. If anybody from forum face this kind of issue please let me know as early as possible.

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'com_exception' with message 'Failed to create COM object `ADODB.Connection': The specified module could not be found. My http.conf and php.ini setting to run PHP as CGI module is as follows.

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "M:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2" will be interpreted by the
# server as "M:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/logs/foo.log".
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "M:/apache" instead of "M:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
# will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "../apache"
ServerTokens Prod
ServerSignature Off

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 8014

Reproduce code:
---------------
Configure PHP as apache using about httpd.conf and php.ini settings and try to create instance of ADODB with following line of code.

<?php
         phpinfo();
     	 echo "############## Creating new ADODB.Connection instance #########################\n";
       	 ini_set("com.allow_dcom","true");

         else
         {
          echo "************Connection creation sucessful****************";

Expected result:
----------------
I should be able to connect to database.

Actual result:

hi All,

I got the solution to this issue.
I believe the problem is fairly straight forward.

On Windows 2003 and below the registered path to the ADODB.CONNECTION is a reg_sz c:\program files\System\ado\.... (where c:\program files is the Program files directory). On Vista and above (well 2008 and above, I believe Vista is the same) this registry key is now a REG_EXPAND_SZ that points to %CommonProgramFiles%\System\ado\...

When we launch the CGI the %CommonProgramFiles% environment variable is not set. As such the path is invalid. We need to set this environment variable in apache so that the child processes have it defined. We must query the system for the value to use, do not hardcode this to c:\program files as the actual path may vary.

In order to resolve this issue you need to pass following path to apache httpd.conf
PassEnv "CommonProgramFiles"
PassEnv "CommonProgramFiles(x86)"

and on PHP side use following line. It seems on win 208 and vista enviorment variables having parenthesis has some issues
need to fixed that by replacing "(" by "_" and restart apache. It should work fine.
putenv("CommonProgramFiles(x86)=" . getenv('CommonProgramFiles_x86_'));

Thanks,
Paras
