I have upgraded (and manually and with installer) from 5.2.1 to 5.2.6 (Apache 2.0.55) and unable to load php_mysql.dll 5.2.6 (so 5.2.5, 5.2.4)
BUT!!! php_mysql.dll from 5.2.1 release is working fine!!!!!

There is an Apache error message

First: Uninstall all PHP related file. Reboot. Check that there REALLY aren't _any_ files left from the PHP package (including any dlls, etc.). Then reinstall.
