I'd like to see the function distinguishing between 'no records' (boolean function result or zero) and 'error' (Exception or negative function result).  

In the case of an error, one would log the error and continue or not.
And if there is no record, one would sort out the invalid domain.
At the moment I have to sort out the domain in every way even if the domain is valid but the machine cannot connect to a domain name service or what ever.

This is not possible as long as res_search() returns -1 both on failure and "no records".
