my program that uses PHP3.06 and a interbase back end and it works well.when i tried to port it to PHP4 Candidate 1. my query producess garbage data

InterBase module wasn't working in RC1. Try RC2, if the problem doesn't
disappear, file a new bugreport with an example of your query and sample of
that garbage data, and tell what version of InterBase you are using.
