Please try using this CVS snapshot:

  http://snaps.php.net/php5.2-latest.tar.gz

For Windows (zip):

  http://snaps.php.net/win32/php5.2-win32-latest.zip

For Windows (installer):

  http://snaps.php.net/win32/php5.2-win32-installer-latest.msi

And make sure you replace every old file, including the extra dlls from this new package.

Same problem, with same versions, on Windows XP Pro SP2, with Pentium D processor.

This seems to be a bug in MySQL, not PHP:

Sorry, but your problem does not imply a bug in PHP itself. For a
list of more appropriate places to ask for help using PHP, please
visit http://www.php.net/support.php as this bug system is not the
appropriate forum for asking support questions. Due to the volume
of reports we can not explain in detail here why your report is not
a bug. The support channels will be able to provide an explanation
for you.

Thank you for your interest in PHP.
