Apache crashes when using file(), or file_get_contents() or fopen() with a URL (allow_url_fopen enabled in php.ini, of course).

I got back to php 4.4.1 and the everything works fine

Reproduce code:

$file = file_get_contents('');

echo strlen($file);

Expected result:
The size of the file

Actual result:
Apache crashes (no error in error.log)
