I have searched and read all the other bug reports mentioning the same error and found all to be not very helpful. This is on a x86_64 linux distribution with x86_64 libraries of MySQL and everything else.

When I run the configure script like so:

./configure --with-apxs2=/www/bin/apxs --with-mysqli

The configure script works fine. Then during the make command, everything seems to run find except for a small warning during the linking stage:

*** Warning: This system can not link to static lib archive /usr/lib64/mysql/libmysqlclient.la.
*** I have the capability to make that library automatically link in when
*** you link to this library.  But I can only do this if you have a
*** shared version of the library, which you do not appear to have.
*** But as you try to build a module library, libtool will still create 
*** a static module, that should work as long as the dlopening application
*** is linked with the -dlopen flag to resolve symbols at runtime.

The compilation itself finishes fine. Then I run make install and get the following error:

Expected result:

I expect PHP 5 to be compiled for Apache and isntalled in the modules directory and to...well... work. ;)
